The From the Rolex Watch

Rolex is a of Swiss wristwatches and accessories better known for their quality and exclusivity. Timepieces have become status symbols of the rich and famous as well as the upwardly-mobile career-minded individual. Although symbolic of success, Rolex has earned its strong reputation through innovations in design and performance over many decades.

The Rolex, SA company was founded in 1905 by Mr. Hans Wilsdorf and his awesome brother-in-law, Mr. Alfred Davis. Contrary to popular belief, Hans Wilsdorf was neither Swiss, nor a watchmaker. Wilsdorf & Davis was the initial name of the later took over as Rolex Watch Company. They originally imported Hermann Aegler's Swiss movements to England and placed them in quality cases made by Dennison and others. These early wristwatches were then sold to jewellers, who then put their own names about the dial.

The Wilsdorf & Davis company moved away from Britain in 1912. Wilsdorf wanted his watches to be affordable, but taxes and export duties on the case metals (gold and silver coins) were driving costs up. From that period to the current, Rolex has been headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, although the company owns facilities in other cities (Bienne, etc) and continents (North America, Asia, Australia, etc).

The organization name Rolex was officially registered on 15 November 1915 . It is thought this transformation was a part of a drive to popularize wristwatches, which during the time were still considered a novelty largely for women (pocket watches were more prevalent). Wilsdorf was said to desire his watch brand's name to become easily pronounceable in any language. The business name was officially changed towards the Rolex piece Company during 1919. It was later changed announce, you can check here, to Montres Rolex, SA and finally Rolex, SA.

One of the company's innovations are the initial self-winding watch; the first waterproof watch case; the initial wristwatch with a date around the dial; the very first watch to demonstrate two timezones simultaneously; and most importantly the initial watchmakers to create the coveted chronometer certification for any wristwatch. Thus far, Rolex still props up record for the most certified chronometer movements in the class of wristwatches. Another little known simple truth is that Rolex participated in the introduction of the initial quartz watch movements. Although Rolex has made hardly any quartz models for its Oyster line, the business's engineers were instrumental in design and implementation of the technology noisy . 1970s.

The very first self-winding Rolex watch was agreed to people in 1931, operated by an inside mechanism that used the movement from the wearer's arm. This not just made watch-winding unnecessary, but eliminated the problem of over-winding a wrist watch and harming its mechanism. Rolex was also the very first watch company to make a truly waterproof watch another milestone from novelty to functional timepiece. Wilsdorf even went so far as to have a specially made Rolex piece connected to the side of the Trieste bathyscaphe, which visited the foot of the Mariana Trench. This wrist watch survived and tested as having kept perfect time during its descent and ascent.

Rolex has also designed a reputation in watches suited to the extremes of deep-sea diving, aviation and rock climbing. Sports models include the Oyster Perpetual Sea Dweller 2000 feet in 1971. This watch featured a helium release valve, co-invented with Swiss watchmaker Doxa, to dispense helium during decompression. These guys the GMT Master, originally developed at the request of Pan Am Airways, to aid pilots in transcontinental flights. The Explorer and Explorer II were developed specifically for explorers who'd navigate rough terrain like the world renowned Everest Expeditions.

Around the more glamorous side, Ian Fleming's Mission impossible character wore a Rolex Oyster Perpetual inside the group of spy novels. During the early EON production Bond films, Commander Bond was seen to wear a Rolex Submariner.
